Thunderbirds Land in Birmingham
25/05/2004 Source: Jessica Martin

International Rescue's 'Tracy Island' recreated for the UK Motor Show.

Yes, here comes the 'Thunderbirds powered by Ford' experience, planned to dominate the Ford stand at the forthcoming annual UK Motor Show.

It will herald Ford's involvement in the forthcoming 'Thunderbirds' live-action movie from Universal Pictures, officially released across the UK from July 23rd 2004.

The stand will be over 7 400 square metres (the size of a football pitch) and will include many Thunderbirds themed areas including International Rescue's 'Tracy Island' constructed using 5 tonnes of sand and incorporating a 840 square metre 'lake'. A 16 metre long model of Thunderbird 2 will also be suspended from above the stand.

Visitors to the stand will be able to see original vehicles, sets and props from the movie via a stand tour, including the full-scale star of the Thunderbirds experience - FAB1- Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward's pink, six-wheel bubble canopy limousine (co-developed by the filmmakers and Ford's own in-house design team).

A 25-minute live action Disneyland-like show aims to bring the stand experience to life for visitors and will run every two hours through the public days of the show.

The Motor Show opens this Thursday 27th May and goes on until the 7th June (more than a week), so if you're a Thunderbirds fan, get your butt on over to Birmingham.
