Will Piers Anthony's Xanth fantasy novels get a movie?

The SciFi Channel's SciFi Wire reported yesterday:

"Warner Brothers has bought the film rights to Piers Anthony's fantasy novel series Xanth, to be produced by Wolfgang Petersen and David Benioff, Variety reported."

We're all big Xanth fans here at the 'Nest, and the possibility that the pun-filled fantasy series might make it to the big screen with 'A Spell for Chameleon' sent us straight over to Piers to hear the news from the horse's mouth.

Piers seemed a little cooler though, than the Variety magazine gossip would suggest; telling the 'Nest: "That Variety article is about all I know of it, though I did get a fan letter from the screeplay writer. We haven't actually signed the deal yet."

Sounds promising, but no slam-dunk yet, fantasy fans. Here's hoping ...
