Agent John Jarrold? 24/05/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
JJ to act as literary agent for PC games house SCi Games. John Jarrold, ex-publisher of SF and Fantasy imprints with Simon & Schuster, Random House and Macdonald Futura (now Time Warner) will be acting as literary agent for SCi Games, one of the UK's leading computer games publishers. John will be selling rights in novelisations, 'Making of' books and other properties.
SCi's latest game, Galleon, is a tale of action, adventure, romance, evil and mystery, from Toby Gard, the man who created Lara Croft and lead designer of the first Tomb Raider game; a series that has now sold over 30 million copies.
Other properties include the Conflict series of games; Conflict: Desert Storm I and II based on the original Gulf War events and Conflict: Vietnam (to be released September 2004). Sales of the first two Conflict: Desert Storm titles have already exceeded 3.5 million units worldwide. SCi are also working on a forthcoming version of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, along with other as-yet unannounced titles.
'I'm a huge gaming fan, and have been for over ten years,' said Jarrold. 'I had a letter published in the gaming magazine PC Zone in the mid-90s, when I was with Random House, suggesting closer ties between book publishers and the gaming industry. I'm delighted that there is now a chance to do something concrete about it. SCi are a market leader and we'll be working together with major publishers on a number of varied book projects based on their multi-million selling creations. I believe this will be the beginning of a long-term relationship between two extremely productive worlds.'
Patrick O'Luanaigh, Creative Director of SCi Games said, "We're delighted to be working with John. The games industry is growing rapidly, and I hope that we can help develop increasingly strong links between the games and the literary industry. We're looking forward to working alongside book publishers to help bring big game brands to paper, and involve them in the development of new game franchises."
John can by contacted by e-mail at: j.jarrold@btopenworld.com or by phone in the UK on +44(0)1424 440652.
