Rowling's no Time Lord 07/05/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
Author JK Rowling refuses to write Doctor Who episode. It's a tough job being the world's best paid fantasy author.
In between gazing out of your Scottish castle and musing on the plot direction for the next Harry Potter novel (due out this Summer; no year-long editing and typesetting hell for our Ms Rowling), you also have to fend off the inevitable storm of publicity, writing and charity 'opportunities'.
The lastest of these offers was from Russell T Davies, the writer and driving force behind the new million-pound per episode Doctor Who series (with the edgy Christopher Ecclestone lined up as Gallifrey's most famous resident).
Our Russell wanted J.K. Rowling to join the impressive line-up of name authors gagging for a chance to write an episode for the new Doctor Who series.
Unfortunately for the Beeb, the famously shy and private Rowling cried off, citing the pressures of producing the Potter novels.
Russell T Davies commented on her decision: "I asked J.K. Rowling if she would like to write an episode for the new series. But she told me she was amused by the suggestion, but simply does not have the time. It was slightly disappointing ... to say the least."
Coming next: Jeffrey Archer's Dr Who episode?
