Wheel of Time Movie Rolls Around? 24/03/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
Robert Jordan's fantasy novel The Eye of the World gets the movie treatment. Red Eagle Entertainment has just acquired the exclusive film production and distribution rights to Robert Jordan's 'The Eye of the World', the first novel in Jordan's best-selling The Wheel of Time fantasy series.
In addition to licensing the property for film and television production, Red Eagle Entertainment is looking after the related video games, toys and other merchandising stuff.
The announcement was made by Rick Selvage, chairman and president, Red Eagle Entertainment.
Since 1990, more than 15 million of Jordan's books have been sold to readers in North America alone. The broad reach of The Wheel of Time phenomenon is also demonstrated by more than 65,000 WOT websites that bind together the worldwide community of fans of the series.
"The public's appetite for action fantasy entertainment has been stunningly affirmed with the recent blockbuster success of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter film franchises," said Selvage. "Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series is a one-of-a-kind property. In order to meet the high expectations of the millions of devoted Robert Jordan fans around the world, we intend to make careful choices regarding the development and management of the first installment of The Wheel of Time saga, The Eye of the World. I believe that old and new fans alike will find that the combination of film and technology will offer powerful new ways to bring Jordan's epic masterpiece to life."
In the WOT, the female characters rule sovereign nations, give orders, lead important negotiations, are the trusted keepers of a magical power that drives men insane, and play a central role in protecting the world from destruction.
Robert Jordan was represented in the transaction by agents Joel Gotler and Justin Manask of Joel Gotler & Associates.
