The Virtual Mr Chadbourn
15/03/2004 Source: Jessica Martin

Fantasy author Mark Chadbourn gets a new web site.

It must be the time of year for fantasy writers to get jiggy online. Hot on the heels of last week's annuncement of Stephen Hunt's new site at www.StephenHunt.net, along comes fantasy author Mark Chadbourn to tell us he too has just relaunched his web site in time for the publication of his new novel, 'The Queen of Sinister' (Victor Gollancz).

www.MarkChadbourn.net now features a new forum and novel extracts with more additions expected in the coming weeks.

The re-launch comes on the back of a good year for the author. In 2003, Mark Chadbourn won a British Fantasy Award for his novella 'The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke', while his novel 'The Devil in Green' - just published in mass-market paperback - was shortlisted for the August Derleth Award for Best Novel. The readers of SFX magazine also voted him in their top ten favourite authors and put The Devil in Green in their top ten best novels of the year.

Several of his past novels have just been optioned for film, and he has also been approached by the BBC to develop a new SF TV series.

The Queen of Sinister', published on April 3rd 2004, is a contemporary fantasy with links to Arthurian and Celtic myth.

In it, just as the modern world is reeling from the sudden return of magic, a plague strikes without warning. Nothing can stop its progress, not medicines, not prayer. The first sign of the disease is black spots at the base of the fingers; an agonising death quickly follows. But this is no ordinary disease.

Caitlin Shepherd, a lowly GP, is allowed to cross the veil into the mystical Celtic Otherworld to find a cure. Her search takes her on a quest to the end of a land of dreams and nightmares to petition the gods.

Caitlin is humanity's only hope, but she carries a terrible burden: a consciousness shattered into five distinct personalities - and one of them may not be human.

Mark Chadbourn told the 'Nest: "2003 was an amazing year for me and with so much activity in the film and TV worlds, 2004 is shaping up to be the same. It's the perfect time to publish a novel like 'The Queen of Sinister', which I feel is my best work to date."
