New horror magazine launches with an interesting commercial twist ... er, charge the authors a fee for submitting fiction. There's a new horror mag - 'Thirteen' - recently launched, which is aiming to bring you thirteen works of horror thirteen times a year - one issue a month - with two in October (for the 'hard of math', that's 169 horror stories a year).
However, methinks there's an aspect of their submission process which might attract a little more attention than their actual launch.
Apparently, it costs £2.00 for would-be writers to submit a horror story to Thirteen, without any firm guarantee of publication. Anyone who has a story accepted by the title will then receive a free copy of the magazine (worth £3.50) and the best story writer will receive £113.00 once their story is published.
How the best story is to be judged wasn't mentioned on their web site when we visited.
