Legend in his own lunchtime - John Jarrold, ex-editor of Orbit, Legend and Earthlight - moves into SFF manuscript doctoring. Yes, it's true, JJ is now working with agents, and directly with new writers, as a script doctor - making presentational, structural and line-editing suggestions on SFF typescripts before they are sent to publishers.
Rates are £100/$180 for the first four chapters and synopsis, up to 25,000 words; £350/$650 for a full typescript, up to 100,000 words (rates are negotiable above 100,000 words).
This work can be done on hard copy or on-screen.
John has run three SF and Fantasy imprints in London over the last fifteen years (Orbit, Legend and Earthlight). As for the notches on his belt, he has published Iain M Banks, Greg Bear, David Brin, Terry Brooks, Maggie Furey, David Gemmell, Jon Courtenay Grimwood, Harry Harrison, Robert Holdstock, Robert Jordan, Guy Gavriel Kay, Ian McDonald, Ken MacLeod, Ian R MacLeod and Tad Williams, amongst others. Phew!
He'd be happy to hear from interested parties, and in the interest of fairness, he does point out, use of his services does not mean your book will definitely be published. But heck, let's face it, a would-be author paying for JJ's services is like paying Yoda for light sabre practice. Learn from the master, you will. Drop John a line at j.jarrold@btopenworld.com if you're interested.
