2004 'Woodies' Open for Business 16/02/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
The annual Wooden Rocket Awards open for nominations to honour great SF/F web sites. The second Annual Wooden Rocket Awards opened for nominations today to identify online excellence in the science fiction and fantasy genre.
The awards are voted on by the Internet's science fiction and fantasy fans to give recognition to their favourite web sites across a range of genre categories.
Award Director Mark Lewis has this to say about the 2004 'Woodies':
"With over 12,000 voters participating in 2003, there was a very strong showing in last year's Wooden Rocket Awards. Winners and runners-up included leaders in the field, from the sites of authors such as 'Alan Dean Foster' and 'Greg Bear', publishers such as 'Tor' and 'Baen', webzines such as 'Locus Online' and 'The Alien Online, and the official media sites for 'Farscape', 'Stargate SG1', 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Star Wars'."
"This year we hope to beat that number of voters while honouring the real sweat, hard work and creativity that goes into making a great web site."
There are 17 award categories for the online science fiction and fantasy genre:
1) Best Online Magazine 2) Best Print-to-Web Magazine 3) Best Author Web Site 4) Best Artist Web Site 5) Best Gallery Web Site 6) Best Print Publisher Web Site 7) Best E-book Publisher Web Site 8) Best E-book Web Site 9) Best Official Movie Web Site 10) Best Fan Movie Web Site 11) Best Official TV Web Site 12) Best Fan TV Web Site 13) Best Online SFF store 14) Best Fan Web Site Home Page 15) Best Directory Web Site 16) Best Convention/Society Web Site 17) Best Foreign Language Web Site
