Clarke Awards Loom Large

Stephen Baxter leads the newly announced 2004 Arthur C. Clarke Awards shortlist.

Our tip for the top in 2004, local boy Stephen Baxter surely. Here's the authors and their works.

Darwin's Children - HarperCollins

William Gibson
Pattern Recognition - Penguin Viking

Gwyneth Jones
Midnight Lamp - Gollancz

Neal Stephenson
Quicksilver - Heinemann

Tricia Sullivan
Maul - Orbit

The Judges are Dr Mark Bould and Geoff Ryman for the Science Fiction
Foundation; Iain Emsley and Carol Ann Kerry-Green for the BSFA and
Dave Palmer for the Science Museum.

The chairman of the jury is Paul Kincaid.

The Award consists of an engraved bookend and a cheque for £2004. The
winner will be announced at a ceremony in May 2004.
