Beyond is Back
12/01/2004 Source: Jessica Martin

SF Mag 'Beyond' is coming back in Spring 2004 after a 10 year break.

In 1995, Riley Books (using the Parallel Universe Publications imprint) published three issues of a fantasy and science fiction magazine called Beyond, which ran stories by Karl Edward Wagner, John Brunner, Ramsey Campbell, Stephen Laws, Simon Clark and others, plus regular features by Stephen Gallagher and Kim Newman.

Well, Riley are adding to a whole wave of new magazine launches due in 2004, with an Issue four planned for publication in the Spring of 2004.

The format will change from the original, which was 64 A4 pages long; the new Beyond will be 96 A5 pages long, with colour covers.

It will mainly include short stories, with a section of reviews of recently published books in the SF, fantasy and horror genres.

At the moment planned stories for Issue 4 include:

- Pot de Tete by David Sutton (co-editor of the Gollancz Books of Terror)
- Gangsters & Ghouls by Michael Jennings
- Inside the Labyrinth by Allan Redfearn

They are now interested in looking at stories for the 4th and future issues of Beyond. Normal length of manuscripts should be no more than 4000 words. They have no limits on subject matter, provided it comes within the science fiction, fantasy or horror genre (apparently, they prefer stories that are strong on plot and characterisation).

Stories should typed, with double-spacing, and be accompanied with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. If they accept a story for publication they would generally ask for copy on floppy disk.
