A touch of magic 16/12/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
Magic consultant Paul Kieve develops Wizard Curriculum for the Sci-Fi Channel. SCIFI today launched an online Wizard Education and Certification Program as part of the premiere of their two-part miniseries, Legend of Earthsea - based on the books by Ursula K. Le Guin.
In the tradition of Sorcerer's apprentices everywhere, the Wizard Certification curriculum enables magic aficionados to develop a mastery of wizardry and magic.
SCI-FI's online Wizard Education and Certification Program puts a high-tech spin on magic by enabling Internet users to hone their skills with a series of web seminars designed to instruct on everything from "spells" to "mind reading" to the mechanics of "sleight of hand. Users can download their official Certificate of Wizardry upon successful completion of a final exam.
SCI FI selected Paul Kieve, magic expert and stage illusionist, to develop the Wizard Certification curriculum. Kieve previously served as Physical Magic Consultant on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and as personal magic tutor to Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry. Kieve is the official magic consultant to the Guinness World Records and he, personally, holds two Guinness world records in the magic and performing arts categories.
"Kieve's extensive knowledge of Wizardry and pedigree as a Physical Magic Consultant on the Harry Potter film made him a natural partner to develop a companion magic curriculum for the miniseries. The Wizard Certification course taps into the public's growing fascination with fantasy programming enables SFF enthusiasts to experience the Legend of Earthsea in a wholly interactive way," said Adam Stotsky over at SCI-FI.
"The Legend of Earthsea's protagonist, Ged, is not a natural Wizard but rather someone who must study to master his craft. The online certification course mirrors Ged's own quest for knowledge engages magic enthusiasts everywhere in a serious study of wizardry," added Paul Kieve.
The premier episode of The Legend of Earthsea will air in the USA on SCIFI on Dec 13th 2004 at 9:00pm EST and the second episode will air on Tuesday Dec 14th 2004 at 9:00pm EST.
