A sad end to Earthlight 19/12/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
The old Earthlight web sites falls into the hand of meta-jackers. What a sad end to the once shining jewel of British SFF publishing.
The http://www.earthlight.co.uk/ domain was not renewed on the 26th November when its expiry date passed, and as is usual in such cases, the domain quickly fell into the hands of meta-jackers who buy up old domains for the traffic.
In this case it was 'jacked by one of those mega-directory sites - Webpark - packed full of affiliate links and adverts, so at least the science fiction genre has been spared the shame of seeing Earthlight Online fall into the hands of porn or gambling sites, which also often buy up old domains for their residual traffic.
What are patrons Simon and Schuster thinking of? They should have kept the domain and redirected it to their corporate site at the very least.
Another nail in the coffin for any SFF authors still struggling on with this publisher. Sad. Very, very sad!
