Galactica's all at sea? 23/02/2005 . Source: Jessica Martin
Battlestar Galactica's Richard Hatch set to cruise with fans. Fans of the 1978 Universal Studios TV show Battlestar Galactica are signing up to take a nautical cruise with Apollo.
Richard Hatch, the original Captain Apollo from the classic TV show, is planning a theme cruise to the Mayan Riviera region of Mexico and Belize, at least, so says fan Steve P.
The Caribbean itinerary of the "Carnival Glory" makes stops in Belize City, Cozumel and Progresso Mexico. All of these stops feature shore excursions to historical Mayan ruin sites, many of which have been hidden in the jungle for hundreds of years. At the most famous of these sites, Chichen -Itza, Richard, Steve P. explained, will lead an expedition to climb the Pyramid of Kukulkan.
These adventures aim to fit in with the theme of Battlestar Galactica. The premise of the show was that ancestors of humans came from the stars and were the forefathers of the Egyptians and Mayans.
Not only was Richard Hatch the star of the original "Battlestar", but he's appearing in SciFi channel's new version of the show as well. He plays the role of Tom Zarak, a political prisoner who leads a prison revolt. So far he's appeared in two episodes of the new show.
Richard has also authored five books, all based on the further adventures of the crew of the "Galactica". He is reportedly working on a new sci-fi TV project called "The Great War of Magellan", the story of the struggles of humans against aliens and themselves in a distant galaxy.
The cruise is currently planning to leave from Port Canaveral Florida on December 3rd 2005.
