Ten years of Voyager

Star Trek magazine celebrates 10 years of Star Trek: Voyager. As Star Trek: Voyager celebrates its Tenth Anniversary, Star Trek Magazine, is marking the occasion with an interview with Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and a special archive on the show's pilot episode, "Caretaker".
The archive includes comments from Series co-creator and executive producer Michael Piller, revealing actresses Chelsea Field and Susan Gibney were among those considered for the role of Captain Janeway. Genevieve Bujold was eventually cast on the strength of her star power, but left the show after two days of shooting on the Bridge, realising she "wasnąt right for the part." Kate Mulgrew then stepped up to the plate and quickly made the role her own for seven successful years.
"Jeri, Rick and I all felt that Susan Gibney was the best actress we had read up to that time to play Janeway," Piller reveals of the auditioning process. "We couldn't convince the studio; we even shot a test on the scene where she welcomes the new recruits aboard - the same scene that Bujold shot the first day. Somewhere there exists a tape of all three scenes cut together." But ultimately the studio felt she was too young."
In the interview, Kate Mulgrew enthuses about the support Star Trek fans have given her both during and since the end of Star Trek: Voyager. " Voyager was a hell of a job to have been offered," she reveals, "and whereas I could not comprehend the total phenomenon aspect of it at the time I could certainly understand the magnitude of the job I was undertaking, and that I would need this kind of network and support.
"My fans, who are mostly women and their daughters by the way, provided it. And I am forever grateful to them. They are the most loyal people. Their allegiance is just incredible. They find a way to come to every single performance of Tea at Five. "They've done more for the Alzheimer's Association than anyone else in my life. I've always recognised the fans as very decent, very intelligent and largely honorable people."
Edited by John Freeman, who returns to the title after ten years, STAR TREK Magazine #119 also includes a report from the set of "Augments", plus interviews with Scott Bakula, Brent Spiner and "Storm Front" guest star Golden Brooks.
