A fantasy cash win in the USA
02/03/2005 Source: Jessica Martin

Players from around the world will gather in Atlanta to compete in the 'Magic The Gathering' trading card game tournament.

Three-player teams from Atlanta, as well as other cities across the globe, will convene to compete in head-to-head tournament game-play, playing for $200,000 in cash at Cobb Galleria Center (Two Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, GA).

The 'Magic The Gathering' Junior Super Series for players ages 15 and under will be held on Sunday during the final rounds of the weekend-long competition. First and second prize winners will receive a $500 college scholarship, and an invitation to compete at the national championship in Baltimore this summer. The JSS gives $100,000 in scholarships throughout the year

Atlanta fans and players can line up in hopes of grabbing one of four open tournament seats and vie for a $200,100 prize payout during a "Last Chance Qualifier" competition.

Magic The Gathering has been described as a cross between fantasy football and chess. There are six million players in 70 countries worldwide. The pro tour competition awards $3 million a year.

"Last Chance Qualifier" line-up begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th 2005, and final rounds will be held on Sunday, March 13th where remaining teams will battle for top spots and a first place prize of $60,000 in cash.

Trading card game players - including local competitors - will be playing simultaneously in the grand tournament hall.
