Judge Dredd villains wanted
18/05/2005 Source: Jessica Martin

Live in the UK? Dab hand with a brush'N'ink? Sci-fi comic 2000 AD has launched a competition to find the best new illustrators in Britain.

Buy Judge Dredd in the USA - or Buy Judge Dredd in the UK

The brief is simple - design a new villain for future lawman Judge Dredd. If you're familiar with the Mega-City cop's adventures in 2000 AD every week, then you'll know he's faced a great number of foes in his twenty-eight-year history, such as Judge Death, Mean Machine Angel and the assassin Orlok, amongst all manner of aliens, cyborgs and mutants. Now the comic wants you to come up with a new nemesis that will test Dredd to the limit.

There are two age groups: 12-18 and 18+, and the entries should be a full length image of the character, with further sketches if necessary, plus a fifty-word profile explaining who he/she/it is.

The twenty finalists (10 from each group) that are picked by 2000 AD will win various Stabilo drawing products before their character designs are judged by another panel to determine the two overall winners (one from each group).

The two winning artists will have a specially commissioned Judge Dredd story written for them by John Wagner featuring their villain, and will receive expert tutelage and advice from professional creators in how to draw a five-page comic strip.

The stories will be scanned, lettered and printed in a 2000 AD Winter Special.

Send your entries, together with your name, age and address, to:

2000 AD/STABILO ART COMPETITION
THE STUDIO
BREWER STREET
OXFORD OX1 1QN

Alternatively e-mail your entries to 2000ADSTABILO@2000ADONLINE.COM (you are asked to limit emails to 1.5Mb or less)

Their small print: closing date is July 31st 2005. Entries should be photocopies only, not originals. We regret we cannot return entries. This competition is only open to residents of the UK and Ireland. No cash alternative to prizes will be offered. The winners will be chosen from all the entries received by the closing date.
