ConJose committee discharged
24/09/2005 Source: Jessica Martin

At their meeting on Saturday, September 17, 2005, the board of directors of San Francisco Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (SFSFC) voted to discharge the ConJose Asset Management Committee, dissolving the final administrative remnant of the 2002 Worldcon Committee.

The World Science Fiction Society (WSFS) requires that Worldcon committees file annual reports on their income and expenses until any surplus generated by that Worldcon is disbursed. ConJose filed its Final Report with WSFS at the 2005 WSFS Business Meeting at Interaction, the 2005 Worldcon in Glasgow. With no further responsibilities to WSFS, the committee had no further functions to perform, and SFSFC dissolved it.

A copy of ConJose's Final Report to WSFS, as well as its 2004 and 2003 reports, is available on the corporation's web site: http://www.sfsfc.org/.

With the ConJose Committee now dissolved, any further responsibility for any issues related to the 2002 Worldcon is now directly managed by SFSFC. Any questions about ConJose should be directed to the corporation at info@sfsfc.org.

The ConJose Asset Management Committee was a successor to the 2002 Worldcon Operating Committee that managed ConJose under the direction of SFSFC. After most of ConJose's responsibilities were complete, SFSFC dissolved the larger Worldcon Operating Committee and appointed Cindy Scott, Kevin Standlee, and Tom Whitmore as a ConJose Asset Management Committee. The CJAM Committee was responsible for managing the residual WSFS-related responsibilities and remaining assets of the ConJose Committee.

SFSFC's action on September 17 closes the loop on the 2002 Worldcon, whose history can be traced to the formation in July 1996 of a Worldcon Bidding Committee that originally bid for San Francisco, then switched to San Jose when the San Francisco facilities were unavailable. After being selected to host the 2002 Worldcon at Aussiecon Three in 1999, the bid committee handed over the convention to an Operating Committee that actually ran the convention.

Including all three management committees, the 2002 Worldcon spanned nine years and two months, from July 1996 to September 2005.

SFSFC is the parent non-profit corporation of ConJose, the 2002 World Science Fiction Convention, and ConFrancisco, the 1993 Worldcon.
