Writing Bareback 18/09/2005 . Source: Jessica Martin
Betsy Mitchell, Del Rey Editor-in-Chief, has purchased Bareback and a second (untitled) novel by debut writer Kit Whitfield. Set in an unnamed modern city, BAREBACK presents a society as civilized as our own - with the difference that 98% of the population "furs up" at the full moon each month.
The few who do not are derisively called barebacks - and it's their job to police the cities during full-moon nights to protect society from itself. Lola Galley is one such: part social worker, part public defender, she faces disdain from her well-born "clients," longs for a lover, and faces discrimination in the same way any minority member must.
Del Rey Editorial Director Shelly Shapiro also bought the two final books in Elizabeth Moon's series starring heroine Kylara Vatta.
