First line-up for Solaris
03/04/2006 Source: Jessica Martin

Science fiction imprint Solaris Books has announced its initial three author signings over at BL Publishing.

Buy Solaris in the USA - or Buy Solaris in the UK

And they are:

ASHOK BANKER - IRON GODS

Author of the Ramayana series, ASHOK BANKER presents a space opera romp the publisher describes as deep in the vein of Greg Bear's Forge of God and Peter F Hamilton's The Reality Dysfunction.

This novel examines the consequences of first contact with alien beings and the fallout that occurs when they alter the course of the human race.

JEFFREY THOMAS - DEADSTOCK

A short story writer, JEFFREY THOMAS pens a gritty SF detective thriller set amongst the dirty streets of his city of Punktown. It follows Private Detective Jeremy Stake as he hunts living genetic experiments through a bleak dystopian future, all the while doing battle with his own personal demons and trying to stay one step ahead of his sinister employer.

This novel aims to appeal to fans of Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon, William Gibson's Neuromancer and George Alec Effinger's When Gravity Fails.

NATASHA RHODES - DANTE'S GIRL

Fresh from the novelization of the Blade Trinity movie, rock music photographer NATASHA RHODES has written a contemporary vampire novel set amidst the glamour and corruption of LA. Dante's Girl marks the beginning of a series of dark supernatural adventures in the vein of Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake sequence or Kelley Armstrong's Bitten.

Solaris publisher Marc Gascoigne told SFcrowsnest, "This is just the first of a wave of announcements of signings to our new imprint. As we suspected, the arrival of Solaris has revealed a large untapped pool of SF and Fantasy writing talent. We're especially gratified to welcome Ashok Banker; although known for his rich epic fantasies, his move to hard SF is nothing short of spectacular and we're very pleased to offer a home for his new direction. Stay tuned for plenty more announcements soon."

IRON GODS, DEADSTOCK and DANTE'S GIRL will be published by SOLARIS in spring 2007, for simultaneous release in the UK and USA. All deals were concluded by Solaris commissioning editors Christian Dunn and Mark Newton.
