Harlequin's Ginger Blossom 07/06/2006 . Source: Jessica Martin
Harlequin Enterprises has announced the launch of its new manga-format imprint, Harlequin Ginger Blossom, beginning in September 2006. Harlequin Ginger Blossom aims to be a marriage of Japanese-style manga comics and Harlequin's romances.
"We are extremely excited about publishing Harlequin Ginger Blossom," Pam Laycock, Executive Vice President, told SFcrowsnest. "Harlequin romances are timeless, and Harlequin Ginger Blossom allows a whole new generation of girls to fully participate in and capture the richness of the Harlequin experience in a format they find relevant."
Harlequin Ginger Blossom will launch with four manga titles in its Harlequin Pink line in the United States and Canada, beginning in September 2006. The first four titles are "No Competition," adapted from a novel by Debbie Macomber with art by Yukino Hara, "Jinxed," adapted from a novel by Day Leclaire with art by Akemi Maki, "A Prince Needs a Princess," adapted from a novel by Barbara McMahon with art by Reiko Kishida, and "Never Kiss a Stranger," adapted from a novel by Madeleine Ker with art by Mayu Kasumi.
Harlequin has some experience with the manga format. Since 1998, under a licensing arrangement, Ohzora Publishing Company, a Japanese creator of manga titles for women, has published manga versions of over 250 Harlequin titles in Japan.
Dark Horse Comics, a creator and publisher of comic books and manga in North America, will continue to provide their expertise and support in the creation of Harlequin Ginger Blossom titles.
