BBC finds a triple horror
04/11/2006 Source: Jessica Martin

Filming has begun on a trio of drama specials for BBC One - Empathy, Life Line and Sea Of Souls, which share a contemporary supernatural theme - made by Carnival Films for BBC Scotland.

Empathy by Steve Lightfoot (Sorted, No Angels) is the story of an ex-con whose paranormal visions assist the police in the hunt for a murderer. Life Line by Stephen Gallagher (Murder Rooms, Eleventh Hour) is a supernatural love story.

And Sea Of Souls returns as a two-part special written by the show's original creator David Kane (This Year's Love, Ruffian Hearts), with Bill Paterson (A Midsummers Night Dream, Dr Zhivago) reprising his role as Professor Douglas Monaghan.

The confirmed cast for Empathy includes Stephen Moyer (NY-Lon, Men Only), Heather Peace (The Chase, Ultimate Force) and Mark Womack (Sorted). Details of Life Line and Sea Of Souls casting to follow in the coming weeks.

Anne Mensah, Head of Drama for BBC Scotland, says: "It is so exciting to be part of the launch of such original material. Each film is slightly supernatural in flavour and very modern but also wonderfully distinctive, which means they will be a real treat to watch when they are broadcast next year."

Gareth Neame, Executive Producer for Carnival Films, says: "Empathy, Lifeline and Sea Of Souls, although very different from each other, are united by their imagination, originality and style. We wanted to create three drama events that stand out for the viewer."

Empathy is directed by David Richard and Life Line by Jamie Payne. The director for Sea Of Souls will be announced in due course. All three drama specials are produced by Tim Bradley (Silent Witness, Teachers). The drama specials are produced by Carnival Films, the makers of Hotel Babylon, and will air in 2007.
