Dune, the science-fiction saga from director David Lynch ("The Elephant Man," "Blue Velvet"), is arriving onto DVD January 31st, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

The Dune Extended Edition includes both the original theatrical version of the film and a new extended version never before available on DVD. The DVD features 40 minutes of new bonus material. With an all-star cast featuring Kyle MacLachlan ("Blue Velvet," "Showgirls"), rock legend Sting ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") and Virginia Madsen ("Sideways"), Dune has been completely digitally remastered for the extended edition. The DVD is priced at $27.98 SRP.

Based on Frank Herbert's ng novels about a world beyond time and space, Dune was produced by filmmaker Dino De Laurentiis and his daughter, Rafaella De Laurentiis, with photography by Freddie Francis, music by Toto and futuristic otherworldly creatures designed by Carlo Rambaldi ("E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial").

Dune is an epic saga of political intrigue, deception, war, romance and revenge set against the haunting landscape of Arrakis, an isolated, sand-covered planet also known as Dune. A young nobleman, Paul Atreides (Kyle MacLachlan) survives betrayal and attempted murder to become an intergalactic warrior whose destiny will change the universe forever.

In the far distant future, control of the universe depends upon Melange, an exotic spice that allows interstellar travel and grants psychic powers. It is found in only one place - the mysterious sand-covered planet known as Dune. An intricate and deadly struggle for control of an interstellar empire exiles young Duke Paul Atreides (Kyle MacLachlan) to the planet's harsh environment to die. Instead, he builds an army of desert dwellers that controls access to the spice and radically alters the balance of power. His destiny places him at the center of an inevitable chain of events, with results that will be felt throughout the universe. Based on one of the most famous science-fiction novels ever written, "Dune Extended Edition" is the definitive version of the ultimate epic adventure.
