Ian Cameron Esslemont's new agent

Canadian author Ian Cameron Esslemont has joined the John Jarrold Literary Agency. Cam Esslemont is the joint creator of the world of Malaz, well known to readers from Steven Erikson's bestselling novels. The world was created by the two authors, and Esslemont's first short novel set there, NIGHT OF KNIVES, was published recently by PS Publishing and has already sold out in limited-edition hardback, having received a number of wonderful reviews, including from the official Malazan Empire website: 'if you rather enjoyed GARDENS OF THE MOON, you'll probably find the style and approach of NIGHT OF KNIVES to your liking as well . . . a well-realized short novel . . . it fits well into the Malazan world', and the SF Crowsnest website: 'a delight . . . We get good helpings of most the things that make the Erikson books so enjoyable. Grim and cynical soldiers, much demon mayhem, strange dreamy scenes and nasty deeds in the shadows, all told with either wry humour or great intensity'.
As Steven Erikson says in his introduction to the book, his readers will now understand why he has not written about the empire of the old emperor, Kellanved. He continues: 'Readers of my own work will recognize the world, its atmosphere, its darkness; they will see the characters in NIGHT OF KNIVES as simply more players woven into the same tangled tapestry, they will see the story as one more blood-stained piece of imagined history. And there's so much more to come.' In future volumes, Esslemont weaves his own tales of Malaz - he is at present writing RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD, which picks up events shortly after Erikson's new novel THE BONEHUNTERS.
