Gaie Sebold joins JJLA 27/03/2006 . Source: Jessica Martin
The latest client of the John Jarrold Literary Agency is Gaie Sebold. Gaie Sebold was born in Massachusetts to an American father in the USAF and English mother. She was brought up just outside Oxford, took English, (with Drama and Ancient History in the first year) at Swansea, and plunged into a series of clerical jobs in order to keep the wolves at bay while trying to write.
She currently works for the Royal Society of Arts, and finally got around to becoming a British citizen a couple of years ago, having lived in the UK as a Yank since she was five. A member for the T Party Writers' Group, she has sold short fiction and poetry (and received an Honourable Mention in the 2004 Year's Best Fantasy and Horror anthology for her story Wet Work), and had pieces performed on stage.
Her new novel, A TOUCH OF MAGIC, features a heroine - Clearspring (née Denise) Watkins - who works in a New Age shop in Devon selling fake Elven remedies and is somewhat taken aback by the appearance of six-foot-eight elves with tattoos asking about the provenance of these 'remedies'. The novel also deals with the possible end of life as we know it, love, adventure and the many uses of St John's Wort.
'Like Jasper Fforde, Gaie's witty, intelligent and thoughtful work will appeal to a massive audience of non-genre readers,' said John Jarrold. 'It's not easy to make an old cynic like me laugh out loud and smile, but she achieved both, more than once.'
