The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame has announced the inductees for its 2007 Science Fiction Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Ed Emshwiller (Art Category), Gene Roddenberry (Film, Television and Media Category), Ridley Scott (Film, Television and Media Category) and Gene Wolfe (Literature Category) will be honored during the annual celebration on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 8 p.m. in EMP/SFM’s Sky Church. Author Neal Stephenson will host the evening’s events.

In addition to the induction ceremony, EMP/SFM will open Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television on the same day-June 16th. The exhibition will run through Sept. 30th, 2007. Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television will feature 30 costumes and related objects from science fiction films and television programs such as, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Terminator, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Batman. The exhibition will allow visitors to examine how costume design incorporates color, style, scale, materials, historical traditions and cultural cues to help performers and audiences engage, in new or accepted ways, with the characters being portrayed. Visitors will be encouraged to wear costumes to the opening.

The Science Fiction Hall of Fame honors the lives, work and ongoing legacies of science fiction's greatest creators. Founded in 1996, the Hall of Fame was relocated from the Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas to its permanent home at SFM in 2004. Induction nominations are submitted by SFM members. The final inductees are chosen by a panel of award-winning science fiction authors, artists, editors, publishers and film professionals.

As part of the induction, a display featuring personal artifacts and video footage from each inductee will be added to the existing Hall of Fame exhibit. The inductees will be featured in laser-etched images on the translucent, glowing Hall of Fame display.

Previous inductees include, Stephen Spielberg, George Lucas, Ursula K. Le Guin, Mary Shelley and Isaac Asimov.

Tickets for the June 16th 2007 induction ceremony will be available for purchase on Monday, April 30 for EMP/SFM members ($40) and Monday, May 7 for the general public ($50). The evening will include a seated dessert reception and ceremony. For additional information visit sfhomeworld.org, and to purchase tickets call 206-770-2702.
