Farmerphile issue 8 hits the streets
12/05/2007 Source: Jessica Martin

Farmerphile is a quarterly magazine completely dedicated to works by and about Philip José Farmer. It features the unpublished novel Up from the Bottomless Pit, a SFF suspense-thriller about the ultimate disaster in the oil industry, serialised over the first ten issues.

The April 2007 Farmerphile features Philip José Farmer’s previously unpublished story, “A Spy in the U.S. of Gonococcia,” an outrageous satire of Cold War America, and the exciting continuation of Up from the Bottomless Pit. Also included in this issue: This year’s World Horror Convention Grand Master, Joe R. Lansdale, writes about his first encounter with PJF; Bette Farmer reminisces about the first, as well as the upcoming, stage production of her husband’s Hugo Award-winning “Riders of the Purple Wage,” while Danny Adams (co-author, The City Beyond Play) examines the novella’s Joycean elements; Win Scott Eckert (editor, Myths for the Modern Age: Philip José Farmer’s Wold Newton Universe) uncovers a “lost” Sexton Blake tale, “The Shades of Pemberley,” which seems to bear mysterious connections to the WNU; Dennis E. Power (webmaster, The Secret History of the Wold Newton Universe) looks at tantalizing threads running through Traitor to the Living, Image of the Beast, and the Riverworld series; and Michael Croteau (webmaster, The Official Philip José Farmer Home Page) discusses Greatheart Silver, PJF’s rollicking, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the great pulp heroes.
