Hatchet
01/08/2007 Source: Jessica Martin

Director Adam Green will screen his upcoming feature horror film, Hatchet, on Wednesday, September 4th 2007. Hatchet pays homage to the classic horror films of the '70s and '80s where plain folk find themselves in mysterious fog and mortal danger. Unlike other thrillers being distributed today, Hatchet was produced without the use of computer generated imagery (CGI), relying solely on traditional movie making.

"There are many aspects of Hatchet that come from my upbringing in Boston," explained Green to SFcrowsnest.com. "And Newbury Comics has a noticeable presence in the film because that's where I got all my formative 'literature' when I was growing up."

With a cast that includes Mercedes McNab ("Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Touched by an Angel"), Joel David Moore ("Dodgeball," James Cameron's "Avatar") Deon Richmond ("The Cosby Show," "Not Another Teen Movie") and Patrika Darbo ("Days of our Lives"), the film also features cameos that every fan of the horror genre will recognize. Several of the cast members are expected to attend the special screening.

A 1993 graduate of Holliston High School, Green worked as a morning DJ at the school's radio station and was involved with the yearbook and school video. After graduating from Hofstra University in New York state, Green returned to Boston where he worked making commercials for cable television. His first short film, Columbus Day Weekend, was made borrowing the company equipment.

Bootleg copies of the short film caught Hollywood's attention leading to his first feature film, Coffee & Donuts, which became a pilot series for UPN. He later co-founded ArieScope Pictures and has several additional projects currently in the works.

Hosted by Newbury Comics, the Invitation Only event will take place at the AMC Loews Boston Commons. Hatchet premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year. Anchor Bay Entertainment will open the film in theaters across the country on September 7th 2007.
