Ellen Datlow Poe's it up 08/02/2008 . Source: Jessica Martin
British science fiction publisher Solaris has bought two new books, an Edgar Allen Poe anthology from Ellen Datlow, and a second Quincey Morris horror novel by Justin Gustainis. Buy Poe in the USA - or Buy Poe in the UK To coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allen Poe, Solaris are doing an anthology of remixed and reimagined tales inspired by his work and edited by Ellen Datlow.
Genre names including Sharyn McCrumb, Lucius Shepard, Pat Cadigan and M. Rickert are working on the project, retelling such works as The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death.
The anthology, entitled Poe, will be published in both the US and UK, in January 2009.
Solaris editor Christian Dunn told SFcrowsnest.com, “Poe was one of the most important figures American literature, and a pioneer of genre fiction. We felt it essential to celebrate this milestone date, and this was a wonderful way to honour his work.”
As fiction editor of Omni magazine and Omni Online from 1981 through 1998, Ellen Datlow has published various names in the SF, fantasy and horror genres. She was then the editor of Event Horizon: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror, a webzine founded in September 1998 that remained active until December 1999. From 2000 until the end of 2005, Datlow was the editor of Sci-Fiction for the SciFi Channel's, SciFi.com.
Hot on the heels of the novel Black Magic Woman, Justin Gustainis’s dark fantasy, comes the second Quincey Morris investigation.
In a story that ranges from Baghdad to L.A., Evil Ways sees eccentric billionaire, Walter Grobius, attempt to unleash a devastating magical apocalypse. Quincey Morris, and his partner, white witch Libby Chastain, are drawn into their deadliest case yet…
Justin Gustainis had this to say about the deal, “I’m extremely gratified that Solaris have enough faith in me to commit to a series. And I can’t wait to see what dark pathways Quincey and Libby will be travelling next.”
A mass-market edition of Black Magic Woman will be published alongside Evil Ways.
