Darren Turpin joins Orbit 26/03/2008 . Source: Jessica Martin
There's been a new addition to the UK science fiction publisher Orbit's team in the UK. Darren Turpin joins them on 7th April 2008 in the role of online marketing executive. Better known to some in genre circles as Ariel, Darren has been involved with science fiction and fantasy for many years. During his time as a bookseller, he was co-editor of The Waterstone’s Guide to Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, and he created the now defunct genre website The Alien Online. He also runs the very nice and thankfully not defunct web site UK SF Book News.
Most recently, he has worked as a freelance web developer, and built websites for many scifi authors, including Philip Palmer and Brian Ruckley, as well as various small press publishers. At Orbit he’ll be mainly working on websites and online campaigns for their authors.
On his blog, Darred noted, "Of course, this does mean that I'm going to have to give up my freelance status and the work I've been doing with my non-Orbit clients. Letting everyone know has been a bit of a wrench, but every single one of the folks I spent a total of about five hours on the phone to yesterday were nothing short of delighted for me, and everyone has wished me nothing less than huge success in the future. UK SF Book News will continue for the foreseeable future. Sandy and I were already working on plans to re-vamp the site again, putting an even stronger emphasis on news aggregation, link posting and original interview material. Our aim is to spread as much of the word as we can get our hands on as far and wide as we possibly can whilst providing as much original interview content as we have time for."
