The Hobbit: movie update 01/04/2008 . Source: Jessica Martin
Sir Ian Mckellen is set to play Gandalf in Peter Jackson's new Hobbit movie, as its script is changed to make The Hobbit film a musical. Buy The Hobbit in the USA - or Buy The Hobbit in the UK John W.T. Grimer, a spokesman for the film, told SFcrowsnest.com, "Sir Ian Mckellen has always said he wanted to play Gandalf again if JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit followed the Lord of the Rings into film production, and we think this will give him the perfect platform to showcase his acting skills and demonstrate that his vocal range can be utilized for more than just saying Mordoorrrrr with his trademark Mckellen flourish."
Actor Orlando Bloom is also set to make a guest appearance in the Hobbit film, reprising his role as elf Legolas from the Lord of the Rings. In the film, he will be shown instructing the character Bard in bow skills, allowing Bard of Dale to slay the dragon Smaug at the climax of the film.
Peter Jackson is said to be keen to pen many of the lyrics of the musical numbers in The Hobbit. The confirmation from Jackson's company came after a video was leaked yesterday on YouTube, showing Peter Jackson and various actors dressed as dwarves singing a song entitled 'It's a Lonely, Lonely Mountain (but together we can climb it).'
"After the massive success of Spamalot on Broadway," concluded Grimer, "we think the legion of film-going fans Peter Jackson has built up over the last few years will be truly blown away by this innovative re-imagining of The Hobbit."
