A Dark Vision of science fiction

Sky Movies will be running their dark and nasty sci-fi season from 26th May–1st June 2008 on Sky Movies. Their line-up includes Blade Runner: The Final Cut, The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly, V for Vendetta and Ridley & Tony Scott’s The Andromeda Strain mini series. Could artificial intelligence take over the world or time travel become possible... will we finally find out we are not alone? Sky Movies Sci-Fi/Horror celebrates Hollywood’s fascination with the future with Dark Visions, a season of the more sinister visualisations of the next chapter in humanity's story.
The future has never looked so bleak; human kind being trapped in an android controlled perfect world in The Matrix, Blade Runner’s unruly human ‘replicants’ that are hunted and destroyed, the imagining of a fascist Great Britain in V for Vendetta, and the creation of the perfect police officer, Robocop, from a near dead human. Dark Visions includes some of the most disturbing modern sci-fi classics.
Often the fiction has become reality. The most famous Hollywood imaginings that have started to resemble the present include Minority Report’s wall mounted touch screens which resemble Microsoft’s new multi-touch interface surface; 2001: A Space Odyssey which introduced the concept of commercialised space travel or space tourism; Blade Runner is credited with portraying a smog ridden image of Los Angeles which is on course to becoming a reality in many urban environments because of climate change according to a UN report; Soylent Green’s prediction of the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment.
