Ali-G-mentary, my dear Watson 03/07/2008 . Source: Jessica Martin
Sacha Baron Cohen is set to star as Sherlock Holmes with Will Ferrell appearing as his Watson in a new steampunk-fantasy-history type movie based on Sherlock Holmes to be made by Columbia Pictures. Is nice, yessss. Comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell will get together for a Columbia Pictures comedy based on the characters Sherlock Holmes and Watson, with Baron Cohen taking the role of the master detective and Ferrell as his partner in solving crime, Watson. The screenplay will be written by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder). Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller will produce.
Sacha Baron Cohen recently appeared opposite Johnny Depp for director Tim Burton in Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The new Sherlock Holmes film will re-team Baron Cohen and Ferrell after their collaboration on the 2006 movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Baron Cohen was, until recently, best known as his alter ego Ali G. Baron Cohen also made the very funny piss-take, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, a film starring another alter ego Borat Sagdiyev, the Kazakhstani news reporter. BC is also voicing King Julien, the main character in DreamWorks Animation's Madagascar. He is set to reprise the role in the sequel to said animated film.
Ferrell just completed production on the adventure Land of the Lost, set for release summer 2009. Prior to that, in 2007, he starred in the comedy film Blades of Glory with Jon Heder.
Let's hope that this doesn't become another Around the World in 90 Days with Jackie Chan.
