Paramount gets Marvel-ous
30/09/2008 Source: Jessica Martin

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have stitched up a deal for Paramount to distribute Marvel's next five self-produced movies globally. The films include Iron Man 2 and 3, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, and The Avengers.

Buy Iron Man in the USA - or Buy Iron Man in the UK

This deal, an extension of the agreement made by Brad Grey when he arrived as CEO of Paramount, includes distribution in Japan, Germany, France, Spain and Australia/New Zealand. The first Iron Man movie grossed $574m for Marvel.

The tentative movie release dates run as Iron Man 2 on May 7th 2010, Thor on July 16th 2010, The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6th 2011, and The Avengers on July 15th 2011.

Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount told SFcrowsnest.com, "Coming off of Iron Man's incredible success this summer, we could not be more excited about extending our relationship with Marvel. Marvel's iconic brand, its popular characters and its proven ability to create compelling and visually spellbinding films complement Paramount's great history of filmmaking. We look forward to a long and successful run together."

David Maisel, Chairman of Marvel Studios, added, "Paramount is an excellent partner and an outstanding global distributor. Through our experience on Iron Man, Paramount has demonstrated a passion and ability to release Marvel properties theatrically, allowing us to focus on making great movies for the largest audience possible."

Marvel's Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. was distributed by Paramount and its DVD release, including a Blu-ray version, is September 30th 2008.
