Timothy Travaglini, the editor over at GP Putnam's, writes in to tell us that their YA fantasy novel Lamplighter by D. M. Cornish is now a Best Young Adult Novel finalist for the 2008 Aurealis Awards, and a Fantasy & Science Fiction Finalist for the 2008 Cybil Awards. Buy Lamplighter in the USA - or Buy Lamplighter in the UK Operating since 1995, the Aurealis Awards recognize the achievements of Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror writers.
Operating since 2006, the Cybil Awards are an annual award given out by bloggers (members of the informally titled Kids Lit Blogosphere) who write about children’s and YA literature.
In the Monster Blood Tattoo trilogy, Foundling (book 1) and Lamplighter (book 2) are both by D. M. Cornish. Foundling introduces Rossamünd Bookchild as he ventures out from his childhood orphanage home into the wide world of the Half-Continent, where humans wage an unending battle against the shadowy monsters of the wild. The series continues with Lamplighter, in which Rossamünd is finally enlisted into the service of the Lamplighters, a dangerous job of keeping the roads of the Empire clear of monsters. But finds himself making more enemies than friends as he is pushed toward a terrible destiny, a fate beyond anything he could ever have imagined.
The final book in the trilogy, Factotum, is slated for May 2010.
