Some news close to home, Stephen Hunt's second fantasy novel, The Kingdom Beyond the Waves, was recently named one of the best five scifi and fantasy novels of 2008, alongside the likes of The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan and House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds.
