Patrick McGoohan, who starred in the classic spy-fi TV show The Prisoner, has passed away at 80. A great big white bouncing ball is said to have carried him away from the hospital. McGoohan son-in-law, the film producer Cleve Landsberg, broke the sad news of McGoohan's death from old age today.
The Prisoner was a 1960s UK television series starring and co-created by Patrick McGoohan which merged spy fiction with science fiction. It follows a former British spy (based on McGoohan's Danger Man role) who, after resigning from his position, is held captive in a small village by the sea by an unidentified nation with scifi levels of technology that wishes to establish the reason for his resignation.
He also appeared in 1981 Scanners, a science fiction/horror film and his last movie was a voice role in the animated film Treasure Planet, released in 2002.
In the end, though, he was a man, not a number. Fare thee well, Patrick. |

Posted by: Timaran at 15/03/2009 I"ve only recently discovered his work, being too young to have appreciated most of it at the time. Rest In Peace, Mr. McGoohan. You will not be forgotten.
