NASA sets sights on first Pluto mission 21/12/2005. NASA is preparing to launch the first spacecraft to distant Pluto and its moon Charon. The January 2006 launch of New Horizons will complete the initial reconnaissance of the planets in the solar system.

Kenneth Bulmer passes away 17/12/2005. Maureen Kincaid Speller reports that British science fiction author Kenneth Bulmer died on the 16th December 2005.

Virgin Galactic to build new spaceport 14/12/2005. At press conferences in London and New Mexico, officials from Virgin Galactic and from the State of New Mexico announced that they had reached an agreement which will see the building of a $200m spaceport in the southern part of the state on a 27 square mile area of state land.

Earthsea the anime movie 13/12/2005. Studio Ghibli has officially announced that their next feature film will be Gedo Senki Gedo War History, directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki. The film will be an adaptation of Ursula K Le Guin's Earthsea novels, and will be released in the Japanese theatres in July 2006.
