US television shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the Bionic Woman now comprise 20 percent of the US tv networks' prime-time programming for the 2007-08 season. They join returning shows like Heroes, Chuck and Battlestar Galactica. Yep, it's a sci-fi world.
Ent it grand
20/09/2007. Tolkien fans will shortly be able to subscribe to a public appeal to finance a Tim Tolkien-made sculpture of one of the Ent tree-beings, celebrating the author and his Birmingham roots. From October 1st 2007, courtesy of EBay, fans will be able to bid for a metal leaf with a personalised dedication.

The caves of Mars
16/09/2007. NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft has discovered entrances to seven possible caves on the slopes of a Martian volcano. The find is fueling interest in potential underground habitats and sparking searches for caverns elsewhere on the Red Planet.

The lakes of Mars
15/09/2007. NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is examining several features on Mars that address the role of water at different times in Martian history. Features examined with the orbiter's advanced instruments include material deposited in two gullies within the past eight years, polar ice layers formed in the recent geologic past, and signs of water released by large impacts when Mars was older.
Heroes: Saving Charlie

09/09/2007. The X PRIZE Foundation and Google have launched the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a robotic race to the Moon to win a new $30 million prize purse. The Google Lunar X PRIZE aims to challenge and inspire engineers and entrepreneurs to develop low-cost methods of robotic space exploration.

Master Chief gets waxed up
04/09/2007. Sci-fi marine Master Chief from the Xbox 360's Halo game is the first video game character to be enshrined in Madame Tussauds. The life-sized figure of Halo's Master Chief was revealed to the world by bass player Pete Wentz of lad band Fall Out Boy at an official unveiling ceremony this Saturday.
