Copyright Menace of the Phantom variety?

We are not sure of the legality of this little baby, but boy do we like it.

Those free web space hipcats at http://members.tripod.com/~ddcomp/themes.htm have come up with a rather neat set of freeware Phantom Menance desktop backgrounds for your PC or Mac.

There's a few of these floating around, many we suspect being chased by George Lucas's lawyers - but this seems to be fairly professionally created, compared to many of the hack-work montages thrown together by teenagers who have just discovered the blend menu in Adobe Photoshop.

This freebie may be around for a while, as George is probably too busy going after the pirated videos of the Phantom Menance that are currently flooding China and other Asian countries.

Said dodgy videos aren't, however, thought to be related to the theft of a PM reel from a US cinema in the last week of May. Apparently you can see the heads bobbing up and down in the video, so some kid in the backrow with a minicam is the main suspect.

Anyone who buys this piece of second rate shit deserves all the viewing pleasure they (don't) get.

Come on fans, if ever there was a movie that deserves the big screen experience, this is it.

By the way, you can also get a nifty Phantom Menance screensaver (PC only) from http://epix.freethemes.com/savers/zips/movies/swpm2.exe
