Hair
Today, in an Alien Zoo Tomorrow
Whatever will
those US space boffins at Celestis Inc think of next?
After rocketing
the ashes of Trek creator Gene Roddenberry into deep space, they
have realised there is money in them thar hills, and they have come
up with the commercial Encounter 2001 mission.
For $60 you
will be able to send a strand of your hair into space along will
millions of other punters. Your locks will be rocketed into the
void on the back of an Ariane rocket, said vessel then launching
a new deep space explorer craft currently under construction by
one of the large aero-space giants.
As the name
suggests, the mission launch is planned for 2001 - hopefully cashing
in on Kubrick fever - which puts Sol system exit at around 2014.
DNA resurrection
by aliens may take a little longer.
You will be
reassured to know that the interstellar explorer will be accompanied
by a digital disk filled with as much of human knowledge and culture
as can be fitted into it.
So when you
do end up in an alien zoo, you will at least be able to listen to
the gentle crooning tones of Dean Martin or read the collected works
of John Grisham.
What a comfort.
