Of Metronians and Owls

It's a mixed bag of SF&F webdom we have to entertain you readers with this month.

We'll start with a move, rather than a new site. At long last, the site of the Owl Springs Partnership - sometimes literary agents & editors, sometimes husband and wife fantasy author team - are now moving to http://www.owlsprings.com - find these two cool cats online here from today.

Onto those new sites …

Astroart
A professional looking site from the brush of the very professional David A Hardy. He has illustrated and produced covers for dozens of books, both fact and fiction. Including Patrick Moore, some by Arthur C. Clarke and the late Carl Sagan, all of whom own (or owned) his originals, along with Werner von Braun, Isaac Asimov and even Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. In 1974 he started writing his own non-fiction books for both children and adults.

He's also written a novel, Child of Two Worlds. He's worked on SF mags (Fantasy & Science Fiction, Analog, etc.), factual mags (New Scientist, Focus, Astronomy Now, etc.), movies (e.g..The Neverending Story), TV (Blake's Seven, The Sky at Night, Cosmos, Horizon, etc.), computer games (Kristal, etc.), record covers (from Hawkwind to Holst's The Planets Suite), and video. In other words, this chappie doesn't like getting in a rut!

Heroes and Legends
Another online fantasy serial novel, this time by Mike Monroe. Mike says it features action, adventure, romance, immortals who want to die, and bubbles with faces. What more could you possibly ask for? A new instalment is promised each business day. Business day? Hope you're not bashing this book out at work, Mike!

Jeff Ward
Science fiction, fantasy and astronomical illustration from artist Jeff Ward. He's often found exhibiting work at Fiske Planetarium in Colorado. Wardy has won several show awards at science fiction conventions, including Tropicon XVIII, OryCon 18 and Constellation XV: Aquila. Jeff also illustrates book covers. His two most recent cover art pieces were for the novels Beyond the Mask by Cris Newport, and The Pirates of Sufiro by David L. Summers

Star Wars TrailerTown
Here's one of those web sites that the movie brand police love to shut down when they come across them. It features various clips and MIDI files from the Star Wars Trilogy. If you are opening this one at work on the sly, turn the volume down, because the home page loads with the theme tune from the StarWars film.

The Beacon
Chris Sanderson's online SF novel, The Beacon. The earth is condemned by an alien race, the Metronians, but given a chance to survive by the very commander sent to execute the final order. Commander Mor see's Earth as a jewel in an empty galaxy, an ecological treasure that should not be wasted. As for humankind, they should suffer for their actions, yet not to the point of extinction. Risking his own reputation and possibly his freedom, Mor alters the orders he has been given so as not only to save Earth, but to also give humankind a chance to survive.
