The
first volume might have been released last year but I only caught
sight of it in the shops with a simultaneous release of its companion
volume covering Seasons 3 and 4. Since so much of my comments cover
both volumes, they are therefore reviewed together.
As the titles give the game away, these are episode guides with
notes from the stars and production crew of the MGM SF TV series
'Stargate SG-1' with loads of accompanying black and white photos
and production sketches.
Considering
how much noise is made about the 22/23 episodes per each season,
probably the biggest omission is not having a distinction on the
actual pages to indicate where each season ends and the next begins.
Likewise, and also the similar problem with the 'Farscape' volumes,
this book doesn't really contain a complete synopsis of each episode.
As such my criticism still stands. People buying books such as these
are already fans of the series so they've seen the episodes.
Wouldn't it make sense to have complete episode information than
leave it up in the air?
The background info about the series provides some useful insights
and I suspect many fans would love to see the humorous out-takes.
It's a shame the production company doesn't consider this a potential
seller in its own right as it's bound to prevent piracy somewhere
down the road.
As there's so little background book on 'Stargate SG-1' around,
these books are bound to be picked up by its fans without much prompting
and sales should be a foregone conclusion.
