For people who have seen the film (like me) you get a better insight to the general atmosphere the film portrayed. For those who have just got to know about Trek it is a good beginners book. It concentrates more on the feelings of the crew, dealing with
letting each other move on to different assignments and the general
feeling of the 'Enterprise family' breaking up. Jean-Luc has to face a lot of hard decisions and truths in this
story which adds even more depth and insight to his already established
character. You have a greater insight in the way Data views humanity
and his on-going search to become more human. The 'villain' of the story is not really like any other that
has been in Trek before. Shinzon and his Viceroy left me wanting to know more
from the film and the book filled in the blanks which made the characters even
more detestable yet endearing at the same time. I leave it there as
I am finding it very hard not to give away any key plot-lines. All in all, I felt
it was a nice little read for the train and kept me interested until I finished
the book. It is very well written and flows nicely. Felicity Pang

plot to the book is that a Reman has managed to take over the Romulan
Empire and has invited a Federation ship to Romulus for talks. Enter
Jean-Luc and the rest of the crew of the USS Enterprise.
Whether
you have seen the film or not, if you're not really into the whole
Trek thing then it doesn't matter. You can read this book as a stand
alone and not have to worry about plot-lines from previous films
or books.
