Another
book from Paper Tiger's back catalogue that will probably be more
attractive to the fantasy than SF readers. Saying that, as an SF
reader, I found a lot about this book that appealed to me as well.
As
the title suggests, Delamare has a taste for mermaids and odd compositions
although the book shows a lot of variety within these ranges. His
mermaid pictures rely on a limited palate and are hauntingly attentive.
Delamare also plays heavily with compositions because it suits him.
In comparison, above water, he uses a rather full palate in comparison.
Compared to other artists
Paper Tiger have released, much of the work here wasn't done for book covers but
as a result of exhibition and commission. His animal art verges on
or is surrealistic, especially when juxapositioning them into human poses. Looking
at the cover of this book, one might well believe you're looking at an olde world
style of art when in fact it is really very modern. The contents are really
something worth sitting down on a rainy afternoon to lose yourself in and should
appeal to most of you who like interesting artbooks.
