Fowler and Fisher at FantasyCon
Christopher Fowler and Catherine Fisher are guests of honour at
this year's FantasyCon in November. Also attending this fine British
con are Ramsey Campbell, Anne Gay, Stephen Jones, Tim Lebbon, Stan
Nicholls, Telos Publishing, Alchemy Press, among others.
Our
chums at FantasyCon have passed on some details of this year's event
in November. For neophytes, this is the main annual bash of the
British Fantasy Society (BFS).
This year's shindig is not a joint event with anyone else. Although
co-hosting is something the con-crew were thinking of, when it came
down to it, they wanted a different event altogether ... so everything
has been kept 100% FantasyCon.
The con is due to be held in Tillington Hall, Stafford, UK, 21-23
November '03. Apparently Tillington Hall is a small friendly hotel
where con-goers could well be the only guests, so expect a cosy
feel to the do.

Attendees
Attending will be numerous writers, editors, agents and artists
including Ramsey Campbell, Anne Gay, Stephen Jones, Tim Lebbon,
Stan Nicholls, Telos Publishing, Alchemy Press and various others.
Events
This year's Guests of Honour include Christopher Fowler and Catherine
Fisher, so naturally they'll be interviews with them during the
weekend, which runs from Friday evening until late Sunday afternoon.
FantasyCon hope to run special interest groups on topics from artists
to screenwriting and there'll be some vampire stuff and late-night
ghost stories. Not to forget the usual FantasyCon quiz, raffle and
a variety of other panels. And literary agent Dorothy Lumley will
also be running a workshop and having one-to-one chats with aspiring
authors (if you're interested, contact Nicki Robson as soon as possible
as places are limited).
Food & Drink
The hotel bar opens at 10am and will stay open until the last person
admits defeat. The bar will serve all the usual stuff, including
shorts, plus a good range of bar snacks until 10pm. If that's not
late enough for you, you'll be able to get tea/coffee, soup and
sandwiches all night if you need something to absorb the beer.
There's also a good restaurant with a set meal and a la carte menu.
Dependent on numbers, the hotel may also provide the con with a
carvery or cold/hot buffet at a set price. The restaurant is non-smoking
and they hope to be able to set aside some other areas for non-smokers
to sit in unpolluted airspace.
For those of you who want to dine in style on Sunday, the traditional
FantasyCon Banquet is back, followed by the British Fantasy Society
Awards.
Non-banqueters are of course welcome to join the diners afterwards
for the British Fantasy Awards. The banquet is strictly limited
to 50 places only - first come, first served, so make sure you book
early.
