Why should a book devoted to Zero Tolerance Approach To Punctuation be reviewed in what is normally an SF/fantasy/horror review column.

Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynn TrussI saw its author, Lynn Truss, being interviewed on the BBC Breakfast Show early December and figured if my reviewers see it then they're likely to cite it as an example if they disagree with anything I edit over them.

If not them, then anyone else who wants enlightenment me over how to punctuate correctly. The reverse is also true when out to recommending a punctuation book when some writers really need to brush up on their writing skills.

Oddly enough, this book also hit the UK best-seller list over Yuletide and is being spread around the world now. Author Lynn Truss hit the nail on the head in teaching punctuation. Make it funny, chuck in some history and show how to use it without being dry as textbooks that are available. A nice simple formula that avoids being a stodgy read.

Although I'm not sure it's wise to start sentences with And, especially as doing it too many times consecutively sounds like a child groping to fill the gaps between sentences, this book should make you more aware of the right way to punctuate your work.

Buy it. Learn from it and make all editors' lives easier by knowing how to punctuate correctly. Also beware of hungry pandas with guns.
