As
I might have commented before, when a publisher sends their catalogue
for book selection, I pay as much attention to what else they have
to offer in case it falls within our remit or might be of interest
to you, especially if you're any sort of writer looking out for
useful research volumes.
This one has it in spades. As the title says, this is all about
what happens to the human body under extreme adverse conditions
at the top of mountains to the bottom of the sea to being in the
desert or jungle. As an added bonus is the problems of space travel
and wearing a spacesuit. There! I knew that last bit would get you
sitting up.

If you get this book just for that chapter, then you're wasting
a good read and a wealth of information. The good doctor here shows
what the human body does for survival in all these conditions and
leaves nothing for the imagination. No, that's not quite true.
You really do need to read this book cos anyone else who has read
this book will know you're faking it if you don't recognise or apply
the knowledge presented here...or at least show some thought has
been made to your character's survival in nature's adverse conditions.
Kamler writes from his personal experiences as being doctor on
various expeditions to Everest and South American jungles.
There and other places, he shows what happens to people who aren't
prepared, together with practical survival tips if you want to live
in these extreme environments. I learnt a lot from this book and
am sure to use it as a reference in future.
With SF readers coming from all walks of life, there's every reason
that this book will find appeal with most of you for various reasons
and it has a very healthy price.
Did I say you should own a copy?
