The Expanse Season One (DVD TV series).

With the recent interview on site with Jeremy Benning, director of photography on ‘The Expanse’, I thought it was about time that I watched the first season. Probably the biggest problem was identifying who was who, not helped by a little lack of name usage to help build up a picture of the characters. It […]

Monster Hunt: English Version (DVD film review).

‘Monster Hunt’ is a Chinese comedy film that is part-live action and part-animation. Telling the story of a human man who gives birth to the new monster king, it is a light-hearted martial arts romp with an endearing fantasy slant to it. Having been successful in its native China, it has now been released on […]

Filmmaking For Change 2nd Edition by Jon Fitzgerald (book review).

Filmmaking For Change 2nd Edition by Jon Fitzgerald (book review).

‘Filmmaking For Change’ has nothing to do with creating films on the cheap ie small change. Well, maybe, when you read some films have been created for as little as $30,000 although costing more in distribution and advertising to ensure its out there and needs to be added to this budget. I should point out […]

The Year Of The Geek by James Clarke (book review).

I did think when I was shown this book, ‘The Year Of The Geek’ by James Clarke, that it was supposed to be like a diary and you had to read one page a day. It’s not. At least this way, you won’t have to wait until next year for me to finish reading the […]

Star Trek: Treknology by Ethan Siegel, PhD (book review).

When neutron stars clash!

For the first time, NASA scientists have detected light tied to a gravitational-wave event, thanks to two merging neutron stars in the galaxy NGC 4993, located about 130 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Hydra. NASA’s Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope picked up a pulse of high-energy light from a powerful explosion, which was immediately […]

They Drew As They Pleased: The Hidden Art Of Disney’s Musical Years (The 1940s – Part One) by Didier Ghez (book review).

It should hardly be surprising that the second volume of Didier Ghez’ book ‘They Drew As They Pleased: The Hidden Art Of Disney’s Musical Years (The 1940s – Part One)’, much of the focus in on ‘Fantasia’ (1940). When I saw it for the first time in the early 1960s, I wasn’t entirely sure, outside […]

‘Revolt (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)’ by none other than Bear McCreary. This is the chap who impressed me with his work for the ‘Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D’ soundtrack and the rather darker ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ soundtrack. For ‘Revolt’, we have 14 tracks providing 52 minutes of musical entertainment and only on download. Track 1 is […]
